Ordinary Trustee, elected by the members

David and his wife bought and restored a derelict house in Floral Street in 1977 and he now lives and works there. He went on to found Covent Garden Group Limited, a property development and investment company that specializes in the restoration of listed buildings. They started with two developments in Covent Garden and other completed developments include Millers Wharf, a large warehouse conversion by St Katherine’s Dock with Terry Farrell as architect, and a five-storey Grade I listed house in Great Pulteney Street in Bath.

A Trustee from 2004 to 2010, re-elected 2011. He was Vice-Chairman from April 2016 and, on 5th June 2018, was elected Chairman.

Trustee

Peter Scutt was an officer with the Greater London Council when he first joined its Covent Garden Team in 1981. He was involved with the management of Covent Garden Market from that time, through its subsequent ownership by Guardian Properties; developing its Apple Market, FM services, operations and the programme of street theatre until 1999. He joined Land Securities in 2001 to assist with the development of shopping centres including the award winning Whitefriars scheme in Canterbury and is now employed by Savills to manage that centre. A member of the Trust since 1999.

Joanna Chambers (Joint Vice-Chair)

Joanna Chambers (Joint Vice-Chair)

Joanna has been responsible for a range of master planning and regeneration work in the UK and overseas, and has extensive experience of development projects, working with delivery agencies and community consultation. She has also developed a particular expertise in open space planning and is a CABE Space Enabler. She is a member of the Regional Management Board (RTPI London) and Deputy Representative on the RTPI General Assembly. A Trustee since 2009.

Elizabeth Bax

Ordinary Trustee, elected by the members

Elizabeth has been a resident of Covent Garden for 19 years and is actively involved in the local community. She is a member and Trustee of the Covent Garden Community Association (CGCA), and has served as Hon. Secretary. As current Chair of the CGCA’s Planning Sub-Committee she leads the recognised amenity society for Covent Garden in preparing responses to planning applications and liaising with developers on larger developments.

Chris Betts RIBA, AABC

Chris Betts RIBA, AABC

Nominated by the Royal Institute of British Architects

Chris studied architecture at both the Birmingham and Brighton Schools of Architecture. He joined Purcell Miller Tritton in 1992 and is now a senior principal. He has worked on a wide range of buildings and is experienced in conservation studies, condition surveys and long-term maintenance programmes for historic buildings. A Trustee since 2007.

Paul Dimoldenberg

Paul is Councillor for the Queen's Park ward and has been a Westminster resident since 1973. An expert in public relations with over 20 years of experience, he founded Quatro Public Relations in 2007 and is Chairman of the company. He is a qualified Town Planner and a Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute. A Trustee of the Speakers Corner Trust since 2007, he joined Covent Garden Area Trust as a Trustee in 2017.

Paul Fisher

Paul is a commercial Barrister practising from 4 New Square Chambers, specialising in construction and international arbitration disputes. 


He lived in the middle east for two years where he worked as a disputes lawyer focusing on major infrastructural disputes throughout the region. His work has taken him to Qatar, Lebanon, Oman and the UAE.

Originally from South Wales, Paul now lives in Covent Garden and works from Chambers in Lincoln’s Inn. He became a trustee in November 2018.


Hugh Fowler

Ordinary Trustee, elected by the members

Hugh has spent most of his life working in the restaurant industry and owned restaurants in Covent Garden from 1985 to 2007. More recently as Managing Director of CG Restaurants Ltd he came into contact with the Trust whilst overseeing the regeneration of Tuttons. Hugh retired from CG Restaurants in 2013 and now advises start up leisure businesses. A Trustee since 2013.

Louise Hyams

Louise is one of the three councillors for the St James’ ward which includes Covent Garden and was Lord Mayor of Westminster in 2007-08. She is Deputy Cabinet Member for Adult and Community Services and also serves on the Children and Young People Policy and Scrutiny Committee and the Planning Applications sub-committee. A Trustee since 2007.

Ben Oliver

Nominated by the Royal Opera House

Ben has been working as Communications Manager at the Royal Opera House since 2016. He has extensive Whitehall experience, having worked previously at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills as well as the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Cabinet Office. He has managed high profile communications campaigns for the office of the Prime Minister and continues his public affairs liaison work at the Royal Opera House in his current capacity. He became a trustee in July 2018.


Terry St.Clair

Terry St.Clair has been a professional musician for over forty years. His has been involved with Covent Garden since 1982 as a performer and a member of the Street Performers Association. For many years a member of the Covent Garden Safer Neighbourhood Ward Panel. He was active in the mapping out of performance pitches with Westminster City Council on the East Piazza and James Street. His music has been used in major films and has written and published several articles and songs on the history of Covent Garden. 
A member of the trust since 2012. Trustee from November 2018.

Josephine Weir MBE

Josephine Weir MBE

Nominated by the Covent Garden Community Association

Jo has been a local resident for more than 20 years and is a watercolour artist. She is Chairman of the CGCA, Chairman of the Central Westminster Police Consultative Group, on the board of the Jubilee Sports Hall, a member of the Westminster Amenity Society Forum and is on the Soho Society Executive committee. Jo was awarded the MBE in the 2012 New Year's Honours List for services to the community in London. A Trustee since 1993.

Nicola Roden

Trust Administrator

Nicola has a background in finance and IT, having worked at UBS, Marks and Spencer, AIG and SITA. She joined the Trust in May 2018.
